Goenka Journalism Awards

Express gave Journalist of the Year Award to its own journalist Varghese K George but I think it's a fair selection. This man really writes well and whatever he covers and writes becomes immensely readable.
Praveen Swamy is also a good selection. This Frontline journalist has written many excellent pieces. Mir Ehsan, ok. Barkha Dutt, no comments, Sutapa who? I am sorry I don't follow business journalism. Dhoot, Swati Thyagarajan also got awards. But too much of electronic media here.
Yes electronic media has done good stories but the fact that generally print journalists find the hard facts that give the hint to electronic media can't be ignored.
Also, it is generally regional papers with less circulation who break stories and when they are followed by the Express or HT correspondent a couple of days later, they credited for breaking the stories. It is also a sad part because these regional journos don't get their due.
Punya Prasun Bajpai, (does he spell Vajpayee or Vajpayi?), got award for his story from Nagpur. Though his habit to rub his hands irritates me and I leave no time in switching to the other channel whenever he comes and starts giving Gyan to all of us.

You are running out of time...Rajdeep

Cutting short the guests has become Rajdeep Sardesai's forte. And it is now very very irritating. Everyday these CNN IBN guys collect the guests for their views and never let them finish.
The audience want to listen, the person wants to speak and here Mr Rajdeep just shuts him up. The voice is cut. What kind of uncultured journalism is this? If you are always running out of time, then don't go for so many programmes. The channel doesnot have so many advertisements until now and still such madness.
I feel irritated everyday when Rajdeep does that. Not only the guest is humiliated, I as a general audience feel hurt at this behaviour. I never see this kind of treatment in foreign channels. Let the guest speak, if you can't do that then increase the duration of your programme or just make it your one-man show. I like you as a journalist but the noise should be less and every person should at least be given a few minutes to speak. All are not political spokespersons ready to blurt out sharp comments timely. Who will teach these simple things to the pioneers of Indian television news?

TimesNow: Too judgemental & sweeping statements

After the Meerut fire, the Times Now carried its lead...Politicians reach the spot to score points. What kind of journalism is that? We may be cynical to the core but that does not give us the right to paint everybody with the same brush and make such sweeping statements.
If they don't go you will blast them. If they go, you call them 'Scoring points over dead bodies'. And what journos go for? Getting stories over bodies, how it feels if somebody says that. I have hears this...journos come like vultures.
You must do good stories and understand the role of media. It is doing no good to the families of the affected persons nor it is going to make any prompt action. It will just make cynical people more cynical and that's bad.
